Abstract

The basis of this investigation was the observation that thiocarbanilide could be desulfurized with ethylene chlorohydrin, as follows. The thiourea was boiled with the chlorohydrin, giving a partial yield of diphenylurea which could be increased to 60% by heating the reaction product with alcoholic potassium hydroxide, thus completing the hydrolysis of the intermediate thio ether, C~ HSNHC (NC~ H~) SCH~ CH~ OH.
