Abstract

General Procedure for the Formation of Alkyl Chlorides from Alkyl Chloroformates. Chloroformates are prepared prior to decarboxylation by standard procedures (reacting the alcohol with excess phosgene in an appropriate solvent, such as CH2C12, CHC13, or 1, 2- dichloroethane) and are used without purification and are free of phosgene.
