Abstract

ABSTRACT A simple and convenient one-pot procedure is reported for the synthesis of 1, 2- diketones from corresponding benzoin-type condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes in water with N, N-dialkylbenzimidazolium salt as condensation catalyst and air as oxidizing reagent.
