This review introduces the current preparative methods of C-Xe bond formation and discusses synthetic strategies and specific requirements of suitable organic substituents and the factors which influence the stability of the different classes of C-Xe compounds. The general types of reactivity of C-Xe compounds are organized with emphasis on reactions with nucleophiles and electrophiles.
