Abstract

Oxidative N-dealkylation is the single most common reaction in the biotransformation of alkylamines. This process is catalyzed by a range of enzymes including the flavoproteins, monoamine oxidase and sarcosine oxidase, the quinoproteins diamine oxidase, lysyl oxidase, methylamine dehydrogenase, and plasma amine oxidase, the non-heme iron oxidase ACC oxidase, and the hemethiolate cytochromes P450.
