Abstract

Ketones 3, 4 are obtained in generally high yields, even in the cases 321, It in which or- acetoxycarboxylic chlorides are used. A main limitation of the present method is observed in the attempted preparation of or-ketoesters from ethoxalyl chloride; or-ketoesters are too reactive so that they react readily With the organomanganese reagents, even in the pre- sence of ethoxalyl chloride, and only low yields of oz-ketoesters are the result.
