Abstract

The oxidation of phenothiazine to phenothiazone with ferric chloride in dilute acetic acid was described by Bodea and Raileanu (8). Scheme 4 sketches our attempts to apply this method to the preparation of the alkoxyphenothiazones, XXV, XXVI, XXX and XXXI, from the corresponding alkoxyphenothiazines, XXI11, XXIV, XXVIII and XXIX.
