Abstract

A solution made from dissolving 0.58 g (0.02 mol) of sodium in 50 ml of anhydrous methanol was added to the hexabromide and the mixture refluxed for 2 h. At the end of the refluxing period, the solution was filtered and solvent removed in vacuo to yield an oil which solidified overnight. The residue was dissolved in 25 ml of dioxane, and 75 ml of water and 5 ml of concentrate hydrogen chloride were added to the stirring solution. The resulting cloudy ...
