Abstract The kinetics of oxidation of metol (N-methyl-p-aminophenol) by thallium (III) have been studied in a perchloric acid medium. This organic compound is employed extensively in photographic work. The stoichiometry of the reaction is represented by: C 6 H 4 (OH) NHCH 3+ TI III→ C 6 H 4 (O) NCH 3+ TI I+ 2H+ The kinetics indicate the rate law:
