Abstract

2154 PHILIP G. STEVENS AND SIDNEY HJ GREENWOOD VOl. 65 concentrated hydrochloric acid in the same way that carbinol I was treated, there resulted a completely inactive chloride. Examination showed that the chloride was a mixture of two inactive tertiary chlorides, the expected 11, and 2, 3-dimethyl-3-chlorohexane (IV). Hydrolysis of this mixture yielded inactive products, 2, a-dimethylhexanol-2 (111) and 2, 3-dimethylhexanol-3 (V). ...
