Abstract

I t has been shown in previous papers2 that those alcohols in which the alpha carbon atom is either a member of the benzene ring or is double bonded condense with benzene in the presence of aluminum chloride. It appears that the degree of reactivity of the alcoholic hydroxyl is dependent upon the degree of unsaturation or strain.
