Abstract

Contrary to earlier observations, N-methyl-N-phenylaminotriphenylphosphonium iodide 1 (the Murahashi reagent) does not react with alcohols and primary or secondary amines under mild conditions (80°) to give secondary or tertiary amines. However the reaction can
