Abstract

Secondary alkyl ethers were also cleaved readily. Thus, isopropyl ether reacted with acetyl perchlorate in carbon tetrachloride to give essentially quantitative yields of isopropyl perchlorate and isopropyl acetate. Similarly, isopropyl pentyl ether gave isopropyl perchlorate and pentyl acetate, with no detectable trace of pentyl perchlorate or isopropyl acetate. Simple primary dialkyl ethers were less readily cleaved by acetyl perchlorate. ...
