Abstract

3-Acetyl-, 3-bromo-, 3-chloro-, and 3-nitroacenaphthene have been shown to acetylate exclusively in the 6 position. 3-tert-Butylacenaphthene also acetyles predominantly in the 6 position, in spite of preferential electronic activation of the 5 position. 5-Acetyl-and 5- acetamidoacenaphthene acetylate in position 8, while 5-tertbutyl-and 5- methylacenaphthene react predominantly in position 3.
