Abstract

Abstract A novel process has been developed for the synthesis of (6R, 7R)-7-amino-3- hydroxymethyl cephalosporanic acid (7-AHCA) using a combination of reagents [triethyl amine/tetrabutyl ammonium hydroxide (TBAH)] at ambient temperature, with improved yield. This intermediate was exploited for the synthesis of cefuroxime acid and its sodium salt.
