Abstract

Cocaine inhibits the dopamine transporter and the consequent elevation of dopamine is thought to contribute to the addictive properties of cocaine. Tropane analogues of cocaine, targeted to the dopamine transporter (DAT), are a significant focus of drug design for cocaine addiction medications.
