Results Treatment of urethane 68 (prepared by the Birch reduction of pyridine and subsequent addition of diethyl carbonate6*') with an exces8 of potassium tert-butoxide in Me2SO-d6 under an argon atmosphere at room temperature gave anion 3 (as a deep red solution).
