Abstract A novel Biginelli-like cyclocondensation reaction is efficiently catalyzed by iodotrimethylsilane (Me 3 SiI) in MeCN. The reaction proceeds at room temperature by a three-component one-pot condensation of ketones with aldehydes and urea to afford 5- unsubstituted 3, 4-dihydropyrimidin-2 (1H)-ones in good yields (Scheme 1 and Table).
