Abstract

Altered nucleosides bearing acyclic variations in the sugar moiety were synthesized either from natural nucleosides 5 (ie 2, 3-seco nucleosides) or by reaction between the appropriate pseudo-sugar moiety and the purine or pyrimidine ring.
