Abstract

Martinelline (1) and martinellic acid (2) constitute a small family of naturally occurring pyrroloquinoline alkaloids isolated from the roots of the tropical plant, Martinella iquitosensis, in 1995, as a nonpeptide bradykinin receptor antagonist ( Fig. 1). 1 Their structural features contain a unique pyrroloquinoline with fused tetrahydroquinoline and pyrrolidine rings and two prenyl guanidines.
