Abstract

This paper deals with the cleavage of carbon to carbon or carbon to oxygen bonds accompanied by the addition of hydrogen. This type of reaction applied to hydrocarbons has been referred to by Ellis2 as “hydrogenolysis,” since it is clearly analogous to the reactions commonly termed hydrolysis, alcoholysis and ammonolysis which involve the cleavage of a bond accomfianied by the addition of water, alcohol or ammonia.
