Abstract

Treatment of β-phenyl α, β-unsaturated ketones, cinnamic acid and its ester with Me 3 SiCl– NaI–ROH reagent in hexane at room temperature gave the corresponding saturated carbonyl compounds in good yields. A similar reaction of 2, 4-hexadienoic acid afforded 4- hexanolide.
