Abstract: Photolysis of 8-[o-(aryloxy) phenyl] vinyl bromides, ie, 2-[o-(aryloxy) phenyl]-1- bromo-I, Zdiphenylethenes 5, in dichloromethane gave dibenz [bfloxepins 6 quantitatively. Similar photolysis of vinyl bromides 5 in a mixed solvent of methanol and dichloromethane afforded methanol-incorporated products 7 together with the major dibenz [bJloxepins 6.
