Abstract

Among the several variants for synthesis of fused pyran-γ-lactones,(7) the Pd-mediated tandem carbonylative annulation invented by Semmelhack and co-workers stands out as a valuable synthetic method.(8) The protocol offers an efficient entry to highly functionalized fused pyran-γ-lactones B from benzylic alcohols A (Figure 2); however, a stoichiometric amount of Pd reagent(8n, 8o) was employed.
