Abstract

Variabilin 1, a unique furanosesterterpene tetronic acid of marine origin, was first isolated in 1973 by Faulkner 1 from the sponge, Ircinia variabilis, and subsequently from Sarcotragus sp. 2 in research for potential antiviral antitumor agents from marine invertebrates.
