Abstract

Abstract Different primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols were efficiently converted to their corresponding methoxymethyl ethers with formaldehyde dimethyl acetal in the presence of catalytic amounts of ZrO (OTf) 2 at room temperature. Phenols were also methoxymethylated by this catalytic system.
