Abstract

Friedel-Crafts acylation of alkenes is an old and wellknown reaction.'P2 A reactive acylating agent reacts with an alkene to give an intermediate cation 1, which can react with nucleophiles, usually chloride, to give 2 or undergo a 1, 5-proton shift to give the protonated P, y-unsaturated ketone 3.
