Abstract

In general the use of reagents for the determination of alcohols is limited to the primary and secondary alcohols. Tertiary alcohols either yield unusual substances or do not react. The literature, however, mentions the formation of urethans from a-naphthylisocyanate and two tertiary alcohols. 2 It seemed probable, therefore, that this reagent might be more general in its application.
