Abstract

l, l-Diphenyl-2, 2-dimethylpropane has been synthesized by hydrogenolysis of l, ldiphenyl-2, 2-dimethylpropanol. Ring chlorination and bromination of the diphenyldimethylpropane gave potent contact insecticides. l, l-Di-p-tolyl-2, 2-dimethyl~ propane and l, l-di-p-anisyl-2, 2- dimethylpropane, prepared from the corresponding propanols, were also found to be insecticidal.
