Abstract

Benzyl alcohol (100 mmol) was added to sodium hydride (100 mmol, oil dispersion) suspended in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (150 ml.). After stirring at room temperature for 30 min., carbon disulfide (700 mmol.) was added and the solution stirred for 2 hrs. Propargyl bromide (500 mmol) was then added and the mixture left at room temperature for 3 hrs.
