Abstract

The intramolecular acetal-initiated cationic polyene cyclization reaction was first introduced by WS Johnson. 1,2 Since then, this method has been extensively developed to afford bicyclic, 2,3 tricyclic, 2,3 tetracyclic, 2,3 and even pentacyclic 2,3 products in respectable to good yields.
