Abstract

It was shown in a previous paper1 that y-phenoxypropyl alcohol is readily oxidized to p- phenoxypropionic acid, which in turn is smoothly dehydrated to chromanone. A study of the preparation of other p-aryloxypropionic acids and the corresponding chromanones was then begun.
