Abstract The Friedländer condensation of 8-amino-7-quinolinecarbaldehyde with a series of four isomeric diacetylpyrenes provides the corresponding 1, 3-, 1, 6-, 1, 8-, and 2, 7-bis (2′- [1′, 10′] phenanthrolinyl) pyrenes.
