Abstract

Summary A stepwise degradation of copiamycin and niphimycin I with ozone and sodium periodate, partly combined with D-labelling, and intense spectroscopic investigations of the degradation products led to the structural formulae 34 for demalonylcopiamycin (in agreement with the structure proposed by Zwasaki et al. for the same antibiotic) and 38 for demalonylniphimycin.
