The unsubstituted tricyclodecenetetracarboxydiimide (I) was obtained by reacting tricyclodecenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (the adduct of benzene and maleic anhydride, AB) with aqueous ammonia, followed by thermal imidation under reduced pressure, or by reaction with gaseous ammonia in solution in N, N'dimethylformamide (DMF)[2]. Reaction of AB with leucine and e-leucine gave the N, N'-disubstituted compounds (II) and (III).
