Abstract

Summary The condensation of d-glucose with phenol in the presence of hydrochloric acid has been described. Three types of condensation products were isolated: a water-soluble product, a benzene-soluble one, and a third product, insoluble in both water and benzene. Of these three products, numerous derivatives were prepared. The empirical formulas of these condensation products were established and probable structures discussed. ...
