Abstract

Reactions of aryldiazonium ions with nucleophilic nitrogen species generally result in direct coupling prod- ucts, as in the case of amines,2 or nitrogen displacement products, as in the case of sodium nitrite.3 Aromat,ic azides are formed from coupling products to nitrogen compounds with substituents that readily undergo a elimination, such as hydr~xylamine,~ aryl hydrazine^,^ sulfonamidesq6 and chloramine.'
