Abstract

The attempted direct synthesis of IIIb by condensation of equimolar quantities of 2-naphthol and acetaldehyde ammonia resulted in a high yield of the addition product of Ib with 2- naphthol. This adduct was also obtained in essentially quantitative yield by reaction of Ib with 2-naphthol in benzene solution.
