Abstract

When oxychloride of phosphorus is exposed to a slow current of ammonia gas, at a temperature of 0" centigrade, it combines to form a solid white body, and in so doing increases in weight about 22 per cent. This indicates the absorption of two molecules of ammonia; but on standing at the ordinary temperature the smell of the oxychloride always reappears, and the continuous passage of ammonia even at zero will cause a further ...
