Abstract

Beckmann'was apparently first to point out the marked stability of the sulfone grouping to the action of reducing agents. He observed'that neither aliphatic sulfones, nor ethyl phenyl sulfone wa~ attacked by zinc and mineral acids, zinc dust (distillation), sodium or potassium amalgam, fuming hydroiodic acid or phosphorus pentachloride.
