Abstract

Aliphatic alcohols are converted to the corresponding trifluoromethyl ethers by reaction with carbonyl fluoride and treatment of the resulting fluoroformate with sulfur tetrafluoride. This reaction has synthetic value only when the alcohol is substituted with a deactivating substituent in the P-position.
