Abstract

Eight grams of 4-hydroxy-triphenylcarbinol were dissolved in 40 ccs. glacial acetic acid and reduced in the boiling solution with zinc dust. After filtration the 4-hydroxytriphenylmethane was precipitated by dilution with water. The product melted at 111O after dissolving in benzene and reprecipitating with light petroleum, whilst a mixed melting point with fraction B gave 109O 30 that this also consisted of 4-hydroxy-triphenylmethane.
