Abstract

The lipidic fractions from scotochromogenous bacteria (Mycobacterium gordonae and M. serofulaeeum) contain branched acids1 in addition to a number of fatty acids with a straight chain. The presence of fatty acids with a C(2)-methyl has been demonstrated earlier2 in M. kansasii. In a GC/MS analysis of a mixture of methyl esters obtained after working up the lipidic fractions from M. gordonae and M. sero- fulaeeum we found C1S and C16 fatty acids ...
