Abstract

Methyl esters have been found to undergo amidation when treated with formamide or N- methylformamide in the presence of catalytic amounts of sodium methoxide. In addition to the new amide, other reaction products are methyl formate and methyl alcohol. Carbon monoxide is an additional product with N-methylformamide.
