Abstract

Addition of F,, at ambient temperature and pressure, to F-3-isopropyl-4-methyl-2-pentene (1) or F-2, 4-dimethyl-3-ethyl-2-pentene gives the hindered free radical F-2, 4-dimethyl-3-ethyl-3- pentyl (3) in concentrations as high as 3 M! Radical 3 is stable at room temperature to dimerization, disproportionation, Oz, C12, Br2, Iz, or aqueous acid or base, and, at 70 OC, GC and decomposes by 0-scission with a half-life of 1 h at 100 OC.
