Abstract

1. Substitution of hydrogen by lithium in the methyl cation lowers the energy of triplet states more than singlets. CH2Li+ is still a ground-state singlet, but with a much reduced singlettriplet separation compared with CH3+. CHLi2+ and CLi3+ are predicted to have triplet ground states. 2.
