Abstract Alkylbenzenes were subjected to bromination with molecular bromine using 1-butyl- 3-methylimidazolium bromide as solvent. A complex of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide with bromine was synthesized. It ensured bromination of alkylbenzenes with no bromine and solvent.
