Abstract

Wiley and co-workers2 produced bromobenzene by heating a mixture of phenol and triphenylphosphine dibromide at 200" C until the evolution of hydrogen bromide stopped. Bromobenzene was obtained in 92% yield. In this case, triphenylphosphine oxide was formed as a byproduct and, again, a separation step was needed.
