In a dry 50-mL three-necked round-bottomed flask, swept with dry nitrogen and equipped with a magnetic stirrer and condenser, was placed 2.76 g (10.0 mmol) of keto ester 2 and 0.04 g (0.06 mmol) of recrystallized imidazole. Hexamethyldisilazane (10 mL, 43 mmol) was then added and the mixture was heated at reflux for 2 h.
