Abstract

JOURNAL, 66, 854 (1943). but in only the first of these were we able to demonstrate that fact by synthesis. In the second, and theoretically more important, case involving the formation of a 9, lO-dihydroanthracene derivative, our attempt to confirm the identity of the product by synthesis was unsuc~ essful.~ We felt that by choosing a suitable ketone or, more exactly, ketimine, it would be possible to obtain upon cyclization, a 9, lO-dihydroanthracene ...
